Clapper

Paul Dennis Clapper, 86, of Carson Valley, Duncansville, passed away peacefully Friday, surrounded by family. He leaves behind a legacy of love, faith and dedication. He was the son of James and Thelma (Brubaker) Clapper.

Paul was a 1957 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School. On June 14, 1958, he married the love of his life, Charlene A. (White) Clapper, at Sacred Heart in Altoona. Their enduring marriage was a shining example of commitment and grace.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Paul’s life centered around family. He is survived by three of his children: Gregg (Susan) of Killeen, Texas; Darren (Tina) of McClure, Pa.; and Shannon (Curtis) of Altoona.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Charlene; and two sons, Dennis (Norma) of Riverbank, Calif., and Howard (Kate) of Belton, Texas.

Paul’s pride and joy was his family, which includes 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He rarely missed a game, recital or family gathering, always cheering from the sidelines with a warm smile and supportive spirit.

He spent his career as a professional truck driver and retired from Hoss’s Steak and Sea House, where his work ethic and reliability earned him the respect of colleagues and friends alike.

A lifelong member of Carson Valley Church of the Brethren, Paul lived his faith daily. He embodied the values of humility, generosity and service to others. He found joy in the simple pleasures — bowling, playing softball in his younger years and traveling. Some of his fondest memories were made on family cruises to Alaska and Hawaii.

Paul Clapper was the quintessential family man — hardworking, kind-hearted and devoted to both his loved ones and his Lord. His steady presence, warm hugs and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service to celebrate Paul’s life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Carson Valley Church of the Brethren in his memory.

Paul’s was a life well-lived and well-loved. His memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
